2FA adds an extra layer of security on top of your administrator’s login and password, which is a verification code generated by the 2FA-compatible application.
Enabling 2FA
To enable 2FA, log into your Ringotel Shell account with login and password and navigate to the Account > Settings.
Click on the Two-Factor Authentication option.
Follow the instructions provided:
Download compatible 2FA app on your mobile or desktop device (see below);
Use your 2FA app and your device's camera to scan the QR code or enter a secret key manually;
Verify setup by entering verification code from the 2FA app into the designated field;
Click Confirm.
Compatible 2FA apps
Any 2FA authentication app that supports time-based one-time passcodes should work with Ringotel 2FA. Some examples of 2FA authentication apps include:
Google Authenticator
Authy
Microsoft Authenticator
LastPass Authenticator
Symantec VIP
Note:
Cisco Duo is currently not recommended as a 2FA app. Based on the vendor's documentation:
While both HOTP and TOTP hardware tokens may be imported for use with Duo, TOTP tokens are not recommended, so use them at your own discretion. TOTP token drift and resynchronization are not supported. As a result, imported TOTP tokens may not work for authentication with Duo Security, or may fail to work for authentication after a variable period of time.
Since the Ringotel 2FA service works with time-based one-time passcodes, when using the Duo 2FA app, you may encounter issues where you need to enter the code multiple times encountering invalid code error when logging into the portal.
